Higher Education Career Library
Renowned for its world class cutting-edge research and its outstanding reputation in teaching and research, British universities attract high calibre students from right around the world. These students are enticed to Britain to do their undergraduate, postgraduate or research degrees so that they can pursue their academic and career goals as well as obtaining a qualification which is internationally recognised by employers around the world.
German students with a good level of English have increasingly found Britain a viable and attractive option to pursue their course of study. In fact, the U.K attracts more students from Germany to follow university programmes than any other member state of the European Union, despite the closer geographical proximity of the Republic of Ireland and France.
The choice of programmes of study and of university can be a very daunting one: the UK has one of the most vibrant higher education sectors in the western world; and potential students can easily be bombarded by a wealth of information, paperwork and tight deadlines. The Academy of English is proud to act as an information centre for the British Higher Education sector. It has both the capacity and the expertise to help navigate potential students through to a programme that matches their academic level and suits their current and future needs.
Led by Dr. John Goodyear, who himself spent a number of years working in the Higher Education sector in the UK, the Academy of English draws on experience and also a broad range of resources to help potential students get to the UK to study or carry out research.
Opened in 2013 by Alistair Bassett of the British Council, our Higher Education Careers Library is the largest of its kind in northern Germany. It contains past and present prospectuses from over eighty UK HE institutions, including from the Russell Group of Universities, red-brick universities and also former polytechnics as well as further education colleges offering degree programmes. After a consultation meeting, students can take away prospectuses of interest to them.
In addition to the HE Careers Library, the Academy of English is also able to assist and support UCAS applications to students‘ university choices. UCAS is the central organisation responsible for officially submitting students‘ choices to the selected universities and stands for the University and College Admissions Service. The Academy of English can provide help and support with the completion of Personal Statements as well as assisting in the professional translation and interpretation of references from referees that need to be written and adapted in English.
